Reading
Please read with your child EVERYDAY. There are books provided in their 'book bags.' Sometimes there will be activities in their book bags as well that you can completewith your child. Please sign and return their bags to school every Wednesday.
Writing
How you can help at home: Encourage your child to write grocery lists, messages, letters, e-mail, stories, etc. Allow your child to illustrate their stories.
Spelling
The spelling list for each week will be sent home with your child on Monday. Please review these words with your child for the spelling test every Friday.
Math
Practice addition and subtraction facts daily with your child, as this aides in their problem solving process. Play the games that come home with your child as often as you can. These help your child develop strong number sense and learn number facts by heart. REMEMBER that your child needs to figure out how to solve problems no simply get answers. If your child is unsure, you can help by asking questions rather than giving answers. Listen to your child express their own thought patterns. You will be amazed at the itneresting ways they devise to solve problems. Share your own ideas as well so your child sees that a problem can be solved in more than one way. Talk numbers to your child, point out the different ways we use numbers in our world. Give your child opportunities to count money, make change, explore coupons, and deduct a coupon from a price. Allow a child to tell you what time it is and how important time is for keeping a schedule.
Tell your child about your family history. Make food from your culture.
"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher strates. The great teacher inspires."
